Opportunity to get involved in the life and history of Salcombe.
Play a part in a charity with local interest.
We have a number of positions available:
STEWARD CO-ORDINATOR
We are looking for someone to supervise our dedicated team of volunteer stewards and provide them with appropriate support. The role responsibilities are to:
• Ensure that the Museum is staffed during opening hours by assigning volunteer stewards to available shifts on the duty roster. (Most stewards have a regular ‘slot’ so this usually only needs to be done at the start of the season)
• Organise induction training for new members.
• Ensure that all members of the stewarding team are aware of the Museum’s policies and procedures, are kept informed of current developments and events.
• Advise the Chairman of any issues affecting the work of the stewarding team.
IT AND MEMBERSHIP SECRETARY
As the Museum moves into the digital era we are looking for someone to support the committee in sharing our collections and information with the wider community. The responsibilities and opportunities for this role are:
• Maintain a computer database of all members of the Society and co-ordinate the distribution of membership material and other information (e.g. newsletters) as required by the Committee.
• Be active in promoting the museum to a wider audience through social media with material supplied by the curator, chair and other members of the Committee.
• Keep the museums website (wordpress) updated with new material and news items supplied by the committee.
• There is also opportunity to gain experience with archiving collections by supporting our curation team who are working to digitise our collections.
• As this is a digital role there is no requirement for the applicant to be located near Salcombe
MUSEUM STEWARD
• Help supervise the Museum during opening hours in the April-October season. The shifts are each two-hours (10.30-12.30 and 14.30-16.30) and most volunteers commit to between two and four shifts a month, although this is very flexible.
• Training is given so you don’t have to have any specialised knowledge. All you need is an enthusiastic interest in Salcombe and its history, as well as a willingness to meet people and talk about the Museum and the town, and generally make our visitors feel welcome.
