On November 18th our small museum hosted over 80 children, who created some fantastic artwork! We also heard their stories about what Salcombe means to them and even assisted in recording the collection.
Children from every year group at Salcombe Primary attended, finding objects and creating art that reflected their love of the town. Young Salcombe Centre also attended, with their first ‘Mess at the Museum’ session. The children had the chance to see what life is like working and volunteering in a museum. They assisted in recording the collection as well as creating artwork of their own! These artworks and those by the school will contribute to the upcoming 50th anniversary exhibition that will be held in 2024, celebrating 50 years of Salcombe Maritime Museum and what this history means to the community. Salcombe Maritime Museum has recently signed the Kids in Museums Manifesto, demonstrating their commitment to working with young people, children, and families, so hopefully this means many more days like this are to come!
Thank you so much to Young Salcombe Centre and Salcombe C of E Primary School for working with us, we can’t wait to do it again!
